The perfection of the Kenyan sun has set on this, the May 2025 CNFA mission. Today's clinic went so smoothly, 580 patients. We had home visits, hospital trips, outreach visits to local health clinics to deepen our understanding and further build relationships. We are proud of the work we have done, touched the lives of people who so desperately need access to primary health care, we can't fix everything, we can't cure everyone but we can make one day feel a bit better, allow someone's health concerns to be heard, to hold a hand that may not have been held in some time, to smile and communicate without words. Its powerful and a privelidge to be able to be a part of this work.
We had many smiles, many tears. Our day started with a beautiful welcome song from the early risers of the village of Hamadira and ended with a chorus of "byeeee...bye bye" from the village kids who had just gotten out of school. Oh the smiling faces.
It was a day of reflection...for some of us this will be the first and only time we experience this heart filling , heart breaking and heart repairing experience. For others, we know we will be back....called to finish the work we have started. No matter what, none of us will leave here the same as we arrived. The world feels different. It is to be expected for us all to be out of sorts for a few days when we get home...part of it is time change , part of it is us changed....it is not possible to peek into the lives of people the way we did and not reflect on our own lives, our values, our relationships and how we fit in the world.
We were so fortunate to be thanked by Rose and the staff of the Shewye hotel that we have called home for the past two weeks. The welcome, comfort, attention and safety of this guest house is spectacular. We were gifted beautiful scarves to commemorate our time in Kenya. The food was delicious, the wine was flowing, there was a beautifully made cake to symbolize the ongoing relationship of CNFA and The Shewye. We feel welcome and we thank you Shewye staff.
Our hearts are full, our bellies are too.....there are still a few things I wanna tell you about so the info isn't quite over yet., a few more posts to come...but I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for joining us on our journey. I have been so happy to be able to share it with you through the wonderful photos and videos that were a collection of all of us, what we saw, what we felt...we hope you experienced a little bit of the magic.
We felt your love, we loved seeing your comments, it connected us to the lives we know when we were, for a short while, in a life we are trying to make sense of. Thank you for walking this walk alongside us.
Now, don't be late to airport pick up or you will never hear the end of it... be prepared for some tears, some tight and loving hugs and the suggestion that "we don't need that xyz to be happy lets get rid of all our excess stuff...." I assure you, as someone who has done this many times, she won't actually get rid of everything and that feeling will pass.....be patient
Do not hesitate to reach out if you want to know more about CNFA, if you feel you can assist or know of a connection which may benefit our vision, mission and goals. We welcome your thoughts.
Once again, asante, tunakushukuru, usiku mwema
